Importing geofences

In case you need to add a large amount of geofences to your account it’s a way quicker to import all of them from a file rather than create manually one by one. You can import geofence data to the system from two types of files:

  • Excel
  • KML (formed with Google Earth or other accounting data systems)

Excel import

Please note that from Excel files you can only import circle geofences.

To start importing from a file:

  1. Choose the “Geofences” tool.
  2. Press .
  3. Сlick on “Circle geofences import”.

You can use our File example to import your geofences:

  1. Download the File example.
  2. Add information about your geofences to the file.

Make sure your file contains information on label (name), address, longitude, latitude, and geofence radius.

  3. Upload the edited file to a monitoring service.
  4. Place a tick to use headers from the selected file.
  5. Select the needed geocoder type and press Next.

We advice you to select Google or OpenStreetMap geocoder for a more accurate import.

In the opened window, you can check header fields. If everything is correct, click Next.

When preparing a file, we recommend to add header fields in order to ensure correct synchronization. In case your file contains header fields, they will be automatically detected. Otherwise, you can specify them manually.

At the next stage you can check whether all the records are ready for import. If everything is correct, click Proceed.

Once the import has been completed successfully, the new geofences will appear in the list.

KML import

From KML files you can download geofences of any shape.

To start importing from a file:

  1. Choose the “Geofences” tool.
  2. Press .
  3. Click on “Geofences import from KML”.
  4. Click on the “Browse” button to select the needed KML file on your computer.
  5. Change the default radius.
  6. Once you have selected the needed file, click “Upload”.

Please note that you can change the default radius for a route geofence. For other types of geofences, you can just skip this point.

Once the import has been completed successfully, the new geofence will appear in the list.
