OSRM stands for Open Source Routing Machine. It’s an open-source software that allows you to find optimal routes from one place to another.
The advantage of using Nominatim with Navixy On-premise solutions is that it can be deployed on your local server, thus won’t limit you in amount of requests.
Important to note that OSRM also is not restricted by any maps leaving you freedom to choose your cartography provider.
Having a local OSRM server will come in handy in cases where:
- Network access is restricted and it’s preferable to keep connection within local network
- Other routing tools are too expensive or don’t provide accurate data for your region
OSRM is currently available under 2-clause BSD license.
You can see if data is available for your region by visiting their official site and viewing their demo.
Installation instructions and FAQ can be found at their GitHub page.
